Terms of service
Last updated: April 4, 2026
Supplier. The Product and software marketed as Word Journal are supplied by Word Journal. These Terms are between you and Word Journal regarding use of the Service. When you purchase a subscription, Paddle is the merchant of record; your payment, subscription, cancellation, and refund rights for that transaction are governed by Paddle’s Buyer Terms and Refund Policy, together with any country-specific terms Paddle applies to your purchase.
1. Acceptance
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Word Journal (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms of service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. We may update these terms from time to time; continued use after changes means you accept the revised terms.
2. Service description
Word Journal is a native macOS application and related materials we make available to help you learn and manage vocabulary. Features may change as we improve the product. Some capabilities may require separate third-party accounts or API keys (for example, optional AI features).
3. Subscriptions and billing (Paddle)
Paid plans are recurring subscriptions. Paddle is the merchant of record: Paddle processes payment, tax where applicable, and related buyer communications. When you subscribe, you authorize recurring charges on the terms shown at checkout until you cancel as described in Paddle’s Buyer Terms. Subscription fees, renewals, and payment failures follow those terms.
4. Cancellations, withdrawals, and refunds
Cancellations, refunds, and any statutory withdrawal or cooling-off rights for your purchase are handled under Paddle’s Buyer Terms and Refund Policy, including country-specific terms that apply to you. In particular, you may cancel a subscription so it ends at the end of your current billing period, and you may request refunds or exercise applicable buyer rights using the methods Paddle provides (for example, the buyer portal linked from your subscription confirmation email or Paddle’s support channels).
If you contact Word Journal about billing or a refund, we may direct you to Paddle or help route your request to Paddle.
Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights under the laws of your country or region.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service. For example, you must not: reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code except where applicable law allows; interfere with or disrupt the Service or others’ use of it; use the Service to violate law or others’ rights; or attempt to circumvent technical limits, licensing, or activation mechanisms.
6. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose. Dictionary definitions, AI-generated content, and third-party data are for informational purposes; you are responsible for how you rely on them in study or professional contexts.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Word Journal and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim or (b) fifty U.S. dollars, except where law requires otherwise.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if you materially breach these terms or if we discontinue the Service. You may stop using the Service at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and governing law) will survive termination.
9. Governing law
